世界一脚作りに適したコース

「心に刻まれる風景に出合える」高橋尚子(ランナー)
冬でも暖かい、万年春の様な場所、伊豆大島。大島椿で有名なこの島は、歩いても走ってもとても楽しめる素敵な場所。椿ロードは、500種300万本もの椿が植生する伊豆大島を代表する道。椿のトンネルをくぐると心地良い温かさに包まれる。
パームロードは海沿いに続く道。毎日空が表情を変え、海風をたえず感じながら進んでいくと、松の向こうに富士山がくっきりと顔を出し、夕方には太陽がすごくきれいに海面に映りこむ。
三原山に登れば、そこには溶岩が流れてきた痕がはっきりと見える。草が生えない土地。目に入るのは、緑のない山と海。自然の脅威を感じる時。
様々な自然を満喫できる色んな道。歩き、走り疲れた身体は温泉が癒してくれる。温泉の向こうに広がるのは太平洋。伊豆大島は、季節を問わず、いつ訪れても、どの瞬間でも、心に刻まれる風景に出合える、そんなところです。

大島は世界一脚作りに適したコースだと思う。私は、初マラソンの練習からずっと使い続けてきた。ペースを考えるよりも、ゆっくり脚作りをするのにいい。じわじわとアップダウンを行くといい。平坦な道は練習で気持ちよくスピードがでるけれども、ときどきはこういうところで自分のフォームチェックをしたり、メンタルを鍛えると力になると思う。
なかでも、上るときの膝の感覚とか、下るときの脚全体の向きを意識して欲しい。膝の向き方は、上り下りで重要になってくる。膝の向きは平坦だとわからない。人間は疲れてくると内側に内側に力を寄せようとする。ふんばろうとする。疲れて脚が開いてくる人はいない。このコースでは、上りのときに膝の位置をもういちど直して、フォームを整えることができる。疲れてきたときにどうすればよいかをこの道は教えてくれる。
たしかにランナーでも結構きついコースで、走るとへとへとになる。だが、横を見れば海、陸側には溶岩、と雄大な自然がある。椿にリス、そしてときどき猿がでてくる。走り終わった後には温泉がある。天気のいい日は遠くに富士も見られる。

You will encounter scenery that will leave an impression in your heart.
It’s warm even in winter, as if it were always spring in Izu Oshima. This island, which is famous for Oshima Camellia flowers, is a pleasant place to walk and run. The Camellia Road, which is lined with as many as three million trees of 500 species, is representative of Izu Oshima. When passing through the camellia tunnel, you will be embraced by comfortable warmness.
The Palm Road runs along the seashore. The sky changes its expression every day. When you go on this road while always feeling the wind from the sea, you can see Mt. Fuji showing its sharp form over the pine trees. In the evening, the sun is reflected on the sea surface to produce an extremely beautiful scene.
When you climb Mt. Mihara, you can clearly notice marks that were left by flowing lava. The ground has no grass. You can only see the sea and mountains that are not green, and you feel the threats of nature.
Various roads allow you to enjoy various kinds of nature. When you are tired of walking and running, you can revive yourself by bathing in a spa. Across the spa, you can see the Pacific Ocean spreading out. Izu Oshima is a place where you can encounter impressive scenery at any moment whenever you visit the place in any season.

I think that this Oshima course is the best in the world for runners to train their legs. I have continued to use this course since training for my first marathon. This course is good to slowly train your legs on, rather than for sticking to a pace plan. You should go up and down gradually. You might feel comfortable enough to increase your speed on the flat sections but I think it is also important to check your running form and train yourself mentally sometimes. I believe that such training will empower you.
In particular, you should pay attention to the feeling in your knees while running uphill and the position of your legs when running down. The direction of your knees will become important when running up or down. You cannot tell their direction when running on a flat road. When getting tired, people tend to bring their bodies inward to try and hold out. Nobody will ever open out their legs when they start to get tired. On this course, you can adjust your running form by correcting the position of your knees while on the uphill. This course teaches you what to do when you get tired.
This course is very tough even for professional runners. You will be exhausted after running. However, this course is rich in nature, with the ocean on one side and lava landscapes on the other. Camellias, squirrels, and sometimes monkeys can be seen when running on this road. You can relax in a spa after completing your run. On a fine day, you will even be able to see Mt. Fuji in the distance.

中学から本格的に陸上競技を始め、県立岐阜商業高校、大阪学院大学を経て実業団へ。1998年名古屋国際女子マラソンで初優勝、以来マラソン6連勝。2000年シドニー五輪金メダル、01年ベルリンでは世界記録(当時)を樹立。08年 10月現役引退を発表。現在は「高橋尚子のスマイル アフリカプロジェクト」や環境活動、スポーツキャスター、 JICAオフィシャルサポーターなどで活躍中。00年国民栄誉賞授賞。

有森裕子
バルセロナで銀、アトランタで銅に輝く、日本人初の女子マラソン五輪メダリスト。NPO「ハート・オブ・ゴールド」代表理事。2010年に国際オリンピック委員会(IOC)から女性スポーツ賞を日本人として初めて受賞。

Naoko Takahashi
She started full-fledged training for track and field in junior high school. After Gifu Commercial High school and Osaka Gakuin University, she joined the corporate team. In 1998, she won her first marathon in Nagoya International Women’s Marathon. Since then, she won 6 marathons consecutively. In 2000, she won the gold medal in Sydney Olympics, and established the world record in Berlin in 2001. She announced to retire in October 2008. She is now active in various projects and roles such as “Naoko Takahashi’s Smile Africa Project”, environmental activities, as a sports broadcaster, and JICA official supporter. She received the People’s Honor Award in 2000.

Yuko Arimori
Acquired a silver medal at Barcelona and a bronze medal at Atlanta. She was the first ever female Japanese Olympic games medalist. The representative director of the NPO Heart Of Gold. Received a Female Sports Award from the International Olympics Committee (IOC) in 2010.
